Upstairs, Downstairs

Upstairs, Downstairs was a popular television series from the 70s. It is about a British family and their servants. The family (which is conformed by Richard Bellamy, Lady Marjorie Bellamy, their son James Bellamy, their daughter Elizabeth Bellamy and Lady Prudence Fairfax, who is a very good friend of the Bellamy family) lives upstairs, while the servants (Mr. Angus Hudson, Mrs Kate Bridges, Miss Maude Roberts, Rose Buck, Sarah Moffat, Edward Barnes and Ruby Finch) live downstairs.

In the episode “Guest of Honour”, the family gets noticed that the King Edward VII is going to visit them for a dinner. So the family is notably nervious about this visit, and they make many preparatives to impress the King. They try to cook him his favorite dish and decorate the whole dinning room. As obvious, everyone shows a lot of respect and even admiration to His Majesty. King Edward’s mother, Queen Victoria, used to think he was a foolish young man. Anyway, Edward VII improved the relationship between Great Britain and some other european countries, such as France, which was basically an enemy nation before this.

I think this kind of television series are very interesting, because they present you important historical events or historial personalities in a more entertaining way, that include funny jokes and smart dialogues.

The show was on air from 1971 to 1975, and won many important awards.

In my opinion, every character is very interesting, and their personalities are very well defined. I identify myself with Angus Hudson, because he is a very well organized person, and tries to have everything ready for the time assigned, and I consider myself like that too.
